Search Engine Optimization: Spring Cleaning Your Website’s SEO

An article on Search Engine Land today talks about doing spring cleaning on your website’s SEO. I agree with the author that it’s important to review your website’s SEO to determine what’s working for you and what’s not working for you. Why else should you keep targeting keywords that are underperforming for you due to their lackluster performance? As he says, “It’s important to prioritize and focus on those keywords that have the most potential to deliver the greatest results.”

The author mentions how to organize the steps of the spring cleaning for your website. They include Prioritization, Shifting Your Focus and Tactics to Create Movement. The author later goes on to mention what to re-assess on your website when reviewing the SEO of the site with the tasks ranging from reviewing the keywords you are targeting and whether or not they’re doing well, examining your external links to see if they point to the correct pages, and if the titles and descriptions include the keywords and examining your internal links to make sure that you don’t have any broken links within your website.

Another aspect you could evaluate at the same time is your actual content. After all, once the traffic gets to your website you still have to convince the user you have what they need. Make sure the message you conveying is actually working for you and that it actually makes sense to your clients. So when you start to spring clean in your house make sure you take some time to do some housecleaning on your website as it will be beneficial to you in the long run.
